Glyceryl Stearate

Acting as an emulsifier
Functions: Emollient, emulsifying

Glyceryl Stearate

Glyceryl Stearate is an ingredient that can be used for a variety of purposes in skin care and cosmetic products, acting primarily for emulsification, thickening, and skin conditioning. It is an ester-a white, solid, waxy product-obtained by the reaction between glycerin, a molecule with moisturizing properties, and stearic acid, one of the more common vegetable oils fatty acids. The active ingredient of an emulsifier that will stabilize the water-oil mix is Glyceryl Stearate. This also works in keeping creams and lotions smooth, even, and easily applied. It was incorporated as an agent of viscosity to give it a good consistency; moreover, to offer desirable feel and texture to the product.
Beyond its functional properties in formulation, Glyceryl Stearate contributes to the feel of the skin, giving it a soft and smooth finish, pleasing for many users. Because it is a compound naturally occurring in the body's lipid layers, it integrates well into the skin and offers gentle emollient and conditioning benefits without irritation. Glyceryl Stearate can often be derived from renewable resources such as palm kernel, soybean, or other vegetable oils via a manufacturing process similar to that of soap-making and, therefore, is an environmentally friendly active ingredient.
Besides that, Glyceryl Stearate is biodegradable, adding more to its eco-friendliness, and has also been used both in cosmetics and food for a very long period with great safety. The excellent safety profile, in combination with the multifunctionality of this active in cosmetic formulation, has positioned Glyceryl Stearate as a key ingredient in skincare for the enhancement of performance and sensory appeal of various products.
