Oxidoreductases

Catalyzing enzymes protecting the skin
Functions: Antioxidant

Oxidoreductases

Oxidoreductases are a class of enzymes catalyzing oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions, representing electron transfer between different molecules. These are employed in skincare basically for their antioxidant action in neutralizing free radicals to protect the skin from oxidative stress, which can be associated with premature aging or environmental insults. Many are derivatives of natural sources like plants or microorganisms, added to formulation in order to enhance skin resilience and hence promote its healthier appearance. This would result from less oxidative damage that leads to less inflammation, more intact collagen, and hence, better skin texture and tone.
