Phenoxyethanol

A highly effective preservative in the cosmetic industry
Functions: Preservative

Phenoxyethanol

Phenoxyethanol is the most widespread active cosmetic preservative ingredient is phenoxyethanol, which is widely known to be safe and gentle. It is preferred over parabens despite the fact that there is no hard scientific evidence against parabens. This ingredient has been in use since the 1950s and is approved globally up to 1%. Even though it is found naturally in green tea, the phenoxyethanol used in cosmetics is created synthetically. It supplements its great safety profile with high stability, resistance to high temperatures up to 85°C, and maintains its effectiveness in a broad pH range of 3-10. It is usually combined with ethylhexylglycerin for an enhanced preservative effect.
