Potassium Hydroxide

It is a caustic, rather alkaline ingredient of potash that is applied mainly as a pH adjuster in the skincare formulation; it moderates acidity so that the product may be well tolerated on the skin and work efficiently. It functions to raise the saponification action during soap-making. Potassium hydroxide acts upon the fat and oil to create soap and glycerin. Although it is highly reactive in its pure form, in cosmetics, it is used in very low concentrations, which makes it safe. Proper formulation ensures skin-friendly and stable products with the contribution of potassium hydroxide.
