Pullulan

Pullulan is a polysaccharide obtained by fermentation of starch by the yeast-like fungus Aureobasidium pullulans. In skin care, it has been appreciated for its film-forming and binding properties, giving a smooth, tightening feeling on the skin. This immediate, temporary lifting action can smoothen the skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines, that´s why it is being widely used in anti-aging formulations. Further uses as emulsion stabilizer, it provides breathable barriers against many environmental insults to protect skin; it is also useful owing to its natural, non-toxic, and biodegradable characteristics in varied applications for cosmetics.
